Manhattan
Sublets in Roosevelt Island
Quiet & separate
Two miles of island in the middle of the East River, with Manhattan on one side and Queens on the other and almost no traffic on it. You arrive by tram, by F train or by ferry. Cornell Tech's campus at the southern end brings a steady population of graduate students, which makes this one of the few places in the city where sublets turn over on an academic calendar.
No sublets in Roosevelt Island right now. See everything open across the city.

activity
Roosevelt Island Tramway
A commuter aerial tram that happens to have the best cheap view in New York. Three minutes, one swipe, straight over the East River.
park
Four Freedoms Park
Louis Kahn's last work, a granite room open to the harbour at the island's southern tip. Severe, quiet and worth the walk.
culture
Cornell Tech
Cornell's graduate campus for tech and design, which is why the island's sublet market runs on an academic calendar.
culture
Smallpox Hospital Ruin
A Gothic Revival ruin from 1856, floodlit at night and the only landmarked ruin in the city.
park
Southpoint Park
Meadow and shoreline with Midtown filling the sky across the water. Where the island goes to sit.
What Roosevelt Island is like
Dining
Small and local. A handful of restaurants along Main Street, with Manhattan four minutes away on the tram when that is not enough.
Nightlife
Essentially none, and people move here knowing that. The island is quiet after dark.
Green space
More per person than anywhere else in Manhattan: Four Freedoms Park, Southpoint Park, and a promenade around the entire shoreline.
